You *can* set them, of course, by logging into the router with ssh and
editing the relevant files directly.

That said, there should absolutely be an option to install a different
firmware image.  As it is, openwireless.org has removed an important
freedom from the device (though it's still there, of course, for those
willing to do the tftp thing).
