[HTTPS-Everywhere] No rules, can't update, can't remove

I'm sorry Peter! I wasn't thinking about from where I sent the
message; this one has a working reply address. Following your
suggestion I did some testing and the Error Console output is
below. Thanks very much for your help and please let me know what
else I can do. I followed these steps:

1) Renable HTTPS Everywhere (HE) and restart Firefox.

2) Add-ons Manager (AOM) | HE | Options
- Dialog opens, controls work
- Rules list is empty
- Error Console shows EC OUTPUT A (below)

3) Add-on bar | HE | left-click
- Menu opens, no sites are listed
- Error Console:

Timestamp: 11/26/2012 20:15:38
Error: ReferenceError: HTTPSEverywhere is not defined
Source File:
chrome://https-everywhere/content/toolbar_button.js
Line: 64

Timestamp: 11/26/2012 20:15:50
Error: ReferenceError: HTTPSEverywhere is not defined
Source File:
chrome://https-everywhere/content/toolbar_button.js
Line: 64

4) AOM | HE | More | About
- Window looks normal
- Error Console:

Timestamp: 11/26/2012 20:40:06
Error: NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE: Component
returned failure code: 0x80570016
(NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE)
[nsIJSCID.getService]
Source File:
chrome://https-everywhere/content/preferences.js
Line: 9

5) AOM | HE | More | Check for Updates
- Nav panel shows Available Updates (1)
- Available Updates | HE 3.0.4 | Update Now
- Download progress bar completes
- AOM displays: "There was an error installing
HTTPS-Everywhere"
- Error console:

Timestamp: 11/26/2012 20:42:46
Warning: WARN addons.xpi: Failed to install:
[Exception... "Component returned failure code:
0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)
[nsIFile.create]" nsresult: "0x80520015
(NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)"  location: "JS frame ::
resource://gre/modules/XPIProvider.jsm ::
AI_startInstall :: line 4960"  data: no]
Source File: resource://gre/modules/XPIProvider.jsm
Line: 4960

In the interest of brevity I omitted a few steps above: When I
first enabled HE, I clicked Options before I restarted FF and that
browser window hung (others worked fine). Also, the TableTools2
extension generated errors whenever I touched the AOM interface
(including HE options), so I disabld it and restarted.

Thanks again.

-------- Original Message --------

Unfortunately Tony didn't leave a reply address :(.

These UI symptoms indicate that some part of the JS / XUL / CSS code hit a
fatal exception. It would be most useful to look at the Firefox error console
and see what that exception was.

Back story: Using Firefox 10 ESR, I updated my ~40 extensions >(not all had updates, of course). HTTPS Everywhere and HTTPS Finder >(along with Ghostery and CSFire) had problems: IIRC Add-ons Manager >displayed them twice, once enabled and once disabled, and they >weren't functioning.
