[PrivacyBadger] What does privacy badger really do?

I recently discovered privacy badger. I read the FAQ but I think I still
don't understand what it really does.
Does it just block third-party cookies? If I already block all third
party cookies by browser settings do I gain anything by using privacy
badger?
